How to install Dev on Windows, step by step
From sign up to “Hey Dev”: create your account, copy your license key, run DevSetup.exe, and Dev takes care of the rest. You don't need to install any AI model, Python or API keys.
What you need
- Windows 10 or 11, 64-bitAny laptop or desktop from the last few years.
- A microphoneThe laptop's own mic works. A headset hears you better in a noisy room.
- Internet for setupAnd about 1.5 GB of free disk space for Dev and its speech model.
- Google ChromeFor Gmail, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook. Dev opens its own Chrome window.
- WhatsApp DesktopFrom the Microsoft Store, signed in, if you want Dev to send WhatsApp messages.
The steps
-
Create your account and choose a plan
Go to app.shahabdev.com/account.html and sign up with your email. The Windows app needs the Pro or Business plan.
- Card: pay on the checkout page; your plan starts right away.
- JazzCash, Easypaisa or bank transfer: send the amount shown, then type the transaction ID on your account page. Your plan starts as soon as the payment is confirmed.
-
Copy your license key
Your key is on your account page. It looks like DEV-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX-XXXXX. Click Copy key. Keep it private: anyone with your key can use one of your PC slots.
-
Download DevSetup.exe
On your account page, click Download for Windows. One installer works for every plan; your key decides what Dev can do.
-
Run the installer
- Open DevSetup.exe from your Downloads folder.
- If Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”, click More info, then Run anyway.
- Paste your license key and click Next. Setup checks it online.
- About you (optional): your name, your own WhatsApp chat as it's named in WhatsApp, and your WhatsApp number with the country code. Dev sends your reports there.
- Choose a desktop shortcut and whether Dev starts with Windows, then click Install.
GOOD TO KNOWSetup doesn't need admin rights. It installs for your Windows user only and activates this PC on your license. -
Start Dev for the first time
- If Windows asks whether Dev may use the microphone, click Yes.
- Dev downloads its speech model once, about 480 MB. The bottom of the window shows “Preparing my voice… 45%”. You can type to Dev while it downloads.
- When it says “My voice is ready”, you can talk.
-
Enroll your voice
Open the Controls tab and click Enroll my voice. Read the sentences on the screen in your normal voice. After that, Dev only obeys you, even with a TV or other people in the room.
-
Allow your apps
Dev asks before it opens an app the first time. To do it all at once, open the Apps tab and click Allow next to the apps you use, or Allow all.
-
Add contacts and connect your accounts
Click CONTACTS at the bottom of Dev's window.
- Your WhatsApp: check your own chat name and number.
- Contacts: add the people you message, with their WhatsApp number (like +92 300 1234567), email and social usernames. Then “tell Sara on WhatsApp…” always reaches the right Sara.
- Connectors: click Sign in next to Gmail, Instagram, LinkedIn or Facebook. Dev opens its own Chrome window; sign in there yourself, once.
YOUR PASSWORDSYou type your passwords yourself, on the real Google, Meta or LinkedIn page. Dev never reads or types passwords, and your sign-ins stay on your PC. -
Say “Hey Dev”
Turn on the mic, say “Hey Dev”, wait for the reply, and talk. Try:
- “Open Chrome and play Coke Studio on YouTube.”
- “Check my Gmail.”
- “Tell Sara on WhatsApp that I'll be late.”
- “Volume thora kam karo.”
- “Check my Instagram messages.”
Say “stop” or “good night” when you're done. You can always type instead of talking.
If something goes wrong
Setup says it needs the internet
Setup checks your key online. Connect to the internet and run DevSetup.exe again.
Setup says my key reached its PC limit
Each plan covers a number of PCs. On your account page, remove a PC you don't use any more, then try again. Uninstalling Dev from a PC frees its slot too.
Setup says my plan doesn't include the Windows app
The Free plan is web only. Choose Pro or Business on your account page; if you paid by JazzCash, Easypaisa or bank, wait until the payment is confirmed.
Dev doesn't hear me
Check the mic in Windows: Settings › Privacy & security › Microphone, and turn on “Let desktop apps access your microphone”. Make sure the voice model has finished downloading, and speak after Dev says it's listening.
Dev ignores my voice
Voice lock may be too strict. Enroll your voice again in the Controls tab in a quiet room, using the mic you normally use.
Google says “This browser or app may not be secure”
Close Dev's browser window and click Sign in again. Make sure Google Chrome is installed and up to date. Dev never fills in your password; you sign in yourself.
WhatsApp messages don't send
Install WhatsApp Desktop from the Microsoft Store and sign in with your phone. Allow WhatsApp in the Apps tab, and save the person in CONTACTS with their number.
I got a new PC
Uninstall Dev from the old PC, or remove it on your account page. Then install Dev on the new PC with the same key.
